The veterinary assistant works very closely with the veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Essential functions include assisting the doctor in restraint and treatment of patients, monitor animals and do routine procedures such as fecals and urine collection, perform surgical preparation of patient, provide client education regarding nutrition, parasite control, vaccine protocols, spaying and neutering; fill prescriptions, perform venipuncture, place IV catheters, perform client call backs, take and develop x-rays, perform routine laboratory analysis, and other duties as assigned.
