municipal zoo collection including maintaining a safe, healthy, clean, and attractive living environment. Observes, interprets, and documents animal behaviors, health status, and food consumption. Maintains all records required by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). Suggests policy changes and resolves complex system-wide challenges utilizing independent judgment. Performs related duties as required. Current opening specializes in Marine Mammal training.
Job Purpose: Reporting to the department’s Lead Keepers, Assistant Curator, and Curator, this position is responsible for animal husbandry and maintenance of exhibit and holding areas of the Mammal Department. Zoo Atlanta’s Mammal Department includes: carnivores (e.g., tigers, lions, otters, meerkats, giant pandas), hoofstock (e.g., giraffe, zebra, waterbuck, gazelle, bongo, sheep, goats), kangaroos, swine, elephants, and rhinos.
