Helen Woodward Animal Center is currently seeking an animal care technician. Qualifications as follows: Some animal handling experience required, preferably in a kennel environment. Able to properly handle, exercise, and control large dogs and/or cats difficult cats and exotics. Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team environment. Must have good verbal and written communication and prioritization skills. Must be detail oriented and organized. Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an opportunity available for an Animal Care Technician, within the Division of Veterinary Resources, located on our Medical Campus. This individual provides daily care for various species of animals. Duties will include daily observation; feeding and watering; sanitizing and/or sterilizing animal cages and equipment; exercising and providing environmental enrichment. At times, the Technician will be required to assist veterinary and research staff with animal procedures such as the collection of biological samples and the administration of medications and treatments. The Technician must receive and store materials/supplies as well as maintain animal records.

Duties and Responsibilities: Clean and sanitize animal rooms or pens, hallways, stairways, and other non-animal areas; clean feeders, water bottles, animal caging, and other items; receive new animals, set up housing, provide feed and water, and fill out animal arrival information; collect and record applicable hand recorded and computer generated data; Overtime and weekend work as required; monitor animal room and feed storage environmental conditions; Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds; Mandatory immunizations and screening as required.
