SoBran, Inc has a position available to serve as an Animal Caretaker at Walter Reed in Forest Glen, MD. Primary duties are the daily care and maintenance of laboratory research animals, requiring various levels of biohazard containment. 2 years of experience providing laboratory animal care or equivalent. Basic computer skills and knowledge required. Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolonged period.

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Duties and Responsibilities: Performs daily animal health checks and reports any abnormal animal conditions to the veterinarian, veterinary technician, or manager; Understands and follows all SOP’s and Quality Assurance Standards. Familiarity with GLP requirements is a plus; Receives, examines, transfers, identifies and properly houses incoming animal shipments according to SOP’s and protocols; Changes animal microisolator caging, to include feed and water, according SOP’s and/or specific approved protocols and the approved schedule; Assists with the restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species as requested; Properly prepares animals for exportation as directed; Maintains animal census reports, animal health records, and other forms as requested; Disposes of dead animals following standard SOP’s and policies; Assists with technical procedures (sample collection, injections, medications).
