Animal Care Technician at McLean Hospital, Belmont, MA

Perform a variety of duties to ensure the care, maintenance and husbandry of the satellite transgenic mouse facility. Maintain animal care and cleanliness of the facility. Primarily be responsible for all issues involved in the care of transgenic mice in individually ventilated cages in close collaboration with investigators in the Laboratory of Genetic Neuropharmacology.

Duties and Responsibilities: Clean and autoclave all cages, racks and bottles as needed; Check and fill all water bottles; Monitor operations of barrier rack systems and care for transgenic mouse population, following precaution techniques and protocols at all times; Sweep and mop all floors in all animal housing rooms; Report all animal health problems to supervisor and veterinarian-on-call; Record temperature and humidity in all holding rooms, and sanitation cycle temperature strips in log books, for review by inspectors as required.

Requirements: Good Animal handling skills; Good oral and written communication skills; Sound analytical and organizational skills; Ability to identify potential problems and troubleshoot solutions; Must be able to logically and effectively structure tasks and set priorities.
