We are currently seeking an Assistant Biologist/Ecologist. The successful candidate will participate as a biologist/ecologist to conduct ecological assessments for wildlife and botanical resources For multidisciplinary natural resources projects. Provide professional/technical expertise in the following areas: environmental impact analysis, fauna and flora surveys, permitting documentation, regulatory compliance, land use/development monitoring for natural/biological resources protection.

Requirements: Direct experience in environmental impact assessments and resource management plans; Bachelor’s degree in applicable field (wetland science, wildlife biology, environmental biology, plant ecology, or related biological science discipline); knowledge of wetlands delineation and plant/vegetation surveys; Professional Wetland Scientist certification and formal training on the application of USACE 1987 Wetlands Delineation Manual is a plus; Strong technical report writing and editing, analytical thinking and problem-solving, organizational and planning, interpersonal communication and oral presentation skills; Knowledge of GPS and GIS is a plus.

Animal Care Technician, Abbott Laboratories, Lake County, IL

Must be proficient in non-AWA regulated species, have experience in or cross-trained in AWA regulated and non-regulated species with willingness to work with all species of animals including non-human primates. Must be building cross-trained if hierarchical promotion. Must have the ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities. Works well with others in a team. Must be of good standing in attendance and have good verbal and written communication skills.

The Department of Comparative Medicine (R-403) provides health surveillance, preventative disease programs and daily husbandry and care for all laboratory animals in Abbott’s Lake County facilities. In doing so, the organization helps to assure that all animal model-based research and development conducted at Abbott Laboratories is performed in a humane, regulatory-proper, scientifically-sound and socially-acceptable manner by properly trained scientists.

Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of laboratory animal science. Certification (American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), minimum of Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT).

The Animal Care Program provides the scientific support and technical training for research scientists and their groups in all Lake County Abbott divisions (ADD, GPRD, Ross). The department has primary responsibility for assuring that the Animal Care Program meets the standards for continued accreditation by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and meets the regulations required for compliance with the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).
