GENERAL DUTIES:Performs a complex range of activities required for the care and management of animals in a
municipal zoo collection including maintaining a safe, healthy, clean, and attractive living environment. Observes, interprets, and documents animal behaviors, health status, and food consumption. Maintains all records required by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA). Suggests policy changes and resolves complex system-wide challenges utilizing independent judgment. Performs related duties as required. Current opening specializes in Marine Mammal training.

REQUIREMENTS:
• A Bachelor Degree in Biology, Zoology, or a related field. Or High School Diploma or General Education Development certificate (GED), and two (2) years of experience in a zoological or wildlife park environment.
• Must possess a valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license, or equivalent out-of-state driver’s license. The driver’s license must have no suspensions or revocations for driving-related offenses within the two (2) year period prior to the date of appointment. Suspensions for parking-related offenses are excluded.

The Marine Mammal Trainer/Zoo Keeper performs all aspects of marine mammal training and husbandry. This includes assisting in establishing proper diet and feeding protocols, maintaining clean, safe animal areas and
exhibits, training and maintaining husbandry behaviors, public presentations, water quality monitoring, behavioral observations, animal enrichment, collaborating on exhibit design and construction, administering appropriate treatments or corrective actions and maintaining accurate records. This position is also responsible for the husbandry and care of birds, fish, amphibians, reptile, invertebrates, and other animals.
